For Milan Design Week 2015, David Glaettli/GDD took over an apartment for Karimoku New Standard. On the third floor of a 1920’s palazzo in the Brera district, he created an installation portraying both the intimacy of a home and a public exhibition. Through personal photographs and a short movie by Japanese photographer Norio Kidera, the story of Karimoku New Standard was traced back to its origins. To document the brand’s making, the photographs and movie explore the hardwood forests in the north of Japan that provide the source material for Karimoku New Standard, the sawmills that process the trees, and the large Karimoku factories in the Aichi prefecture, where the timber is crafted in painstaking steps into impeccable pieces of furniture. David Glaettli/GDD created, developed, and implemented the concept for this Milan Design Week 2015 exhibition. This exhibition design work also included planning, styling, location hunting, art direction of the movie and curation of the photographies.
