The design for the Karimoku New Standard/ KNS stand expanded upon the stand of the previous year. Instead of “faking” a real interior space, as is common at trade fairs, the stand was designed as a life-sized architectural mock-up. Construction materials were deliberately left unfinished and construction details were used as decorative elements. The design was abstract, consciously set in between fake and real, and was as fake as necessary, yet as real as possible. The volumes of the walls and colours were inspired by abstract minimalism artworks.
